After multiple surgeries, Aesha’s nose is almost complete, but the process of building her life will take much longer.

Reporter Jessica Ravitz and I first visited Aesha and the family who took her in in early 2012. We published a video and story then, but continued to follow Aesha’s journey. We contacted others who had taken care of her along the way from the American base where she was cared for after she lost her nose, to a home in Brooklyn, and eventually to the family where she lived in 2013.

Jessica and I worked with Christiane Amanpour, who lent her voice to the video, to produce an update on the story. The video ran online and on Christiane’s show.
